What is GAIA?
GAIA, the Geomechanics Alliance in Asia, is proposed as a platform for Asian students and young researchers in geomechanics to exchange knowledge and ideas, fostering the development of a lasting research network.
Similar alliance in Europe is ALERT Geomaterials, which established in 1989 and has been contributing to keep tight network among the Europian countries in the field of geomaterial research. They take advantage of their geographical benefits to hold thematic sessions and doctoral schools in France every year, fostering active exchanges.
On the other hand, despite having similar geographical conditions, exchanges among Asian countries remain limited. Considering the research resources of Asian countries and the significant role civil engineering and geotechnical engineering play in society, it is essential to create opportunities where young professionals, who will shape the future, can actively engage and collaborate across Asian nations, forming networks that contribute to vitalizing the region together.
With this shared vision in mind, the following members are preparing for the upcoming GAIA workshop:
