Abstract
The purpose of this study is to predict the collapse risks of steel framed buildings on fire using a key element index. Some numerical analyses using the adaptively shifted integration (ASI) - Gauss technique were performed on a ten-story steel framed building model with various fire patterns. We investigated the relationship between the sum of key element index values and the sum of the heights of remains after various cases of fire-induced collapse. The numerical results indicated the presence of specific threshold of the sum of key element index values that relates to the initiation of a large scale collapse.
