Abstract
In this paper, a selection scheme of columns for blast demolition of buildings using variance of key element index, in which the contribution of a column to the strength of the buildings can be numerically evaluated, is described. Distribution of the columns with a large difference of key element index in each layer of the building is aimed by estimating the variance of key element index. A blast demolition is carried out in two stages. At the first stage, a large variance is generated by removing the columns selected by using the proposed scheme. At the second stage, columns with large key element index are removed to effectively cause the total collapse of the building. By conducting collapse analyses using the ASI-Gauss technique and by observing the relationship between the number of removed columns for blast demolition and the height of remains after the second stage, the efficiency of blast demolition of buildings using variance of key element index is investigated.
