A Study on New Control Method of Connected Piezoelectric Actuators

Abstract

The relationship between displacement and required electric voltage of piezoelectric actuators plays important role in case of constituting robotic members with the actuators. The flexibility and adaptability of the robotic system increases by using Finite Element Method (FEM) as piezoelectric actuator control system, for FEM is capable for expressing the state of the total system only by stiffness equations, and can cope with lack or disability of constituting members of the system only by controlling stiffness matrices. To calculate the required electric voltage to obtain target displacements becomes an inverse problem. In this paper, the previously proposed simplified inverse problem theory is compared with the scheme using Moore-Penerose generalized inverse matrix, which is obtained by singular value decomposition. The distribution of displacements along actuators is needed as input data to obtain suitable solutions by generalized inverse matrix. On the other hand, the previously proposed theory only needs target displacement at the tip as input data, and can gain practical solutions in control analyses.
